As some of you might already have guessed, I’m a fan of Japanese girl idols. One of the many, many idol groups in existence today in Japan is NMB48, a Osaka-based spin-off group of the (in)famous AKB48. NMB has a weekly show that’s surprisingly entertaining as well as educational…
Hi Kyandi! I have what might be a strange question. I love mahou kei but I also love cult party and fairy kei. Do you think it's possible to combine elements of two (or maybe even all 3??) Of these into a coord? Or would that just be a disaster?
This totally isn’t a strange question at all! In fact, I’m glad you asked me! Mahou Kei is a culmination of everything those styles offer. I’d love to see what you come up with. Personally, I just throw ideas at the wall to see what sticks :P
Of course you can pull elements from pre-existing magical girls (and boys) such as seifuku or flounce skirts and tie them into your outfit. This is a cute look which is often found in other styles as well. Remember, it’s important to have a magical item in the focus for it to be mahou kei, though!
With Mahou Kei, It’s not a fashion tribe, it’s just a little substyle I think many like to do because who doesn’t love magical girls? For me, since I started using the phrase though…it’s like taking the magic or spirit of that magical object (magical girl item or crystal or what have you) and having it breathe life into you. It can be as elaborate as you want, yet it’s important to have a connection with those artifacts.
(For those that don’t know what Mahou Kei is…)
Mahou Kei is a phrase I coined back in 2011. The phrase literally means “Magic Style” in Japanese. The key idea pulls inspiration from the Magical Girl genre, using thematic dress and accessories. Before it had a name to it, it was the way I dressed day to day, which is a mixture of fairy kei, lolita, and a style a sugary witch would wear. It’s very heavy on accessories, as the idea is the amulet, wand, or magical device you focus your outfit on has ‘transformed’ you into your current attire.
I really want to see more done with this! It can be idol magical hero, warrior punk, or flouncy bouncy cute magical! The choices are endless. I’m always happy to see what people come up with.
I'm just sitting here totally amazed at how a response / quote / poem whatever you'd like to call it ...it's something so from my heart that just poured out...and people are reblogging it and inspired by it.
Years ago when I first responded to a question about ‘what it takes to be a magical girl’ … it was a rough time for me, but I overcame it with that team of friends in person in my heart and all. Thank you all (you know who you are) for helping me through it and keeping me strong even when I was weak. We defeated those monsters! I hope to do a teamup in the future with more struggling magical girls so we can work on defeating all those baddies in your universes. Pass on the power!
My family has always been private about our time spent together. It was our way of keeping one thing that was ours, with a man we shared with an entire world. But now that’s gone, and I feel stripped bare. My last day with him was his birthday, and I will be forever grateful that my brothers and I got to spend that time alone with him, sharing gifts and laughter. He was always warm, even in his darkest moments. While I’ll never, ever understand how he could be loved so deeply and not find it in his heart to stay, there’s minor comfort in knowing our grief and loss, in some small way, is shared with millions. It doesn’t help the pain, but at least it’s a burden countless others now know we carry, and so many have offered to help lighten the load. Thank you for that.
To those he touched who are sending kind words, know that one of his favorite things in the world was to make you all laugh. As for those who are sending negativity, know that some small, giggling part of him is sending a flock of pigeons to your house to poop on your car. Right after you’ve had it washed. After all, he loved to laugh too…
Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I’ve ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence. We’ll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again.
”—My only statement. My brothers’ are also online. Thank you for all your kindness, and goodbye for awhile guys. xo (via zeldawilliams)
